Hi,
I am the co-founder of start-up social venture by the name, True (Transforming Rural Enterprises) India. One of the initiatives that we are currently into is to provide cluster development support in terms of forward and backward linkages to the under privileged women in the hand embroidery sector. As you are well aware of, Hand Embroidery is a traditional craft amongst village populations in some pockets of India. For years, the craft has been carried from generation to generation. The contractors exploit the women and although there is a huge demand for hand embroidery, the women seldom get their fair share. Also this sector has not been able to realize its full potential due to various constraints.

Coats India, the Indian arm of the global leader in sewing thread and needle craft products. Coats Plc has partnered with us for this initiative to help these women. We are currently focusing our activities in the Chunguvarchatram Block which is a few kms from Sriperumbuthur (50 kms from Chennai) wherein we are currently reaching out to more than 100 women. Our plan is to form similar clusters ( around 25) across the length and breadth of the country and help at least 1000 women (total of 25,000 women) in each of these clusters to double their wages in the coming years and thereby create a brand in which they also could be stakeholders.

Am currently looking at more avenues to market the same and am on the lookout for ideas and partners. Have attached a link that showcases some of our designs.

Hi Shrikrishna,
Can you send more information about your services and portfolio of websites you designed to our email: econanalysis@yahoo.com? We are building web apps, and we need support to do a Kick ass UI. We need a company that is good in UX research (everything from color combinations of the page to minimizing the number of eyeball movements) and UI design (Flex/Silverlight).

Ranjit, I know of a friend who has recently started her own venture for selling dress materials and saris as reasonable price, I am not sure if she would be intereseted in getting associated with this, but would you be able to pass on cost and any presentation material that you would want to pass along.

To all the members and new joiners of COCC:

It would be a lot nicer if people joining the forum add some more detailed comments on what they are doing: working, studying, start up etc. A very vague or non descript introduction or a wacky profile comment does not say anything about yourself. It may denote a person with a great sense of humor but since for the purposes of such forums is to have a little introduction as to who we are, it is better to aviod such frivolous introductions: when such people send friend requests, we think twice about accepting them, and in the process may miss out on good contacts.

So let us maintain some basic etiquette and provide a little more generic information on what we are upto!!

Hi,
I'm a founder-in-the-wings and plans to startup in December. I'm moving to Chennai, my hometown, and planning to have my startup in Financial Technology - focusing on providing quality data to traders and businesses in the US, and eventually to investors across the world.

I currently work at Microsoft, Redmond and have worked in the early stages of Windows 7 in the Core OS Development team, then moved to a smaller unstructured team called Live Labs that made some part of the search engine Bing, and currently work for Windows Mobile, a smartphone maker that existed long before iPhone :-) and coming back strong.

Except for Microsoft, the only other work experience I have is in an internship in a Defence startup in Washington DC in the heydays of the War. So, pretty much I'm raw in my startup experience and plan to learn things on the go. Once I move to Chennai, I want to frequently attend meetings and have more face2face meetings with some of you and exchange bestpractices.

It is awesome that such an active group exists and help in supporting the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Looking forward to meet you guys.
