Chennai OpenCoffee Club

A place for the startup ecosystem around Chennai

As we were setting up our company (actually my husband, I was just jumping in as and when it struck my fancy), a consultant and software engineer told us it would be a good business model to involve our own friends, spouse, children or other close family members as part of the business as it would be easier to roll out the business plan, not to mention faster as well as economical.

While there was some merit in that well meaning advise, I for one believe that not everyone has what it takes to become an entrepreneur. This was proven beyond doubt when my husband requested a cousin of his(I say cousin as i do not want to really explain the relationship and create a family feud) to join our start up as a programmer and he simply said he did not look at entrepreneurship as a job option!

Like any other corporate/ business house, a start up also needs to build up its ring of power and it is more prudent to have individuals who understand the specific requirements of the business. If such people are available within the family and are willing to bet on a new horse then that is like a jack pot.

I will post more thoughts on the requisites for a start up in subsequent posts
