Chennai OpenCoffee Club

A place for the startup ecosystem around Chennai

Doing what you like is freedom, liking what you do is happiness read the poster i had as a teenager.

I am constatly in discussions with friends who have start ups and have left some lucrative jobs to do their own stuff. Of course I admire their courage and grit. At the same time I wonder if it was a wise move for them. What about their commitment to support their family (my friends were much married and are first generation entrepreneurs, so did not have a large family pool to dip into).

My friend's logic was this was his chance to live life on his terms. All well said, but after 10 years, no offense to him, he is not the next Bill Gates - his ideas were good and his business is on its own two feet and he certainly makes both ends meet. But to me he could have done a lot better if he had a longer corporate stint and then took the plunge.

My friend says, people who stay on in the corporate world for a long time, will never come into business and risk it all full time.

Rather a sweeping statement and I am waiting for my friends in this great forum to prove my friend wrong!

Good ideas are always successful. But nevertheless pain is involved. I appreciate your friend for the healthy decision he made. At the same time, i always insist anyone not to restrict his ideas with one state or one place. Global thought and appeal is most important for any new business venture.

:-)
Bill Gates when starting his first start-up never imagined that he will become world richest in 10 years.
Its no point comparing to Bill Gates or to any other person. Your friend is following his heart.
Wish him Good luck.

He is wrong.. My boss has been in corporate world for long time and today he is a entrepreneur. Similarly Narayan Murthy was into corporate world and move out to be a entrepreneur. thats the wrong fact. Corporate world helps you develop contacts and make your network to support you when you start a new venture.

But, Priya there are so many young entrepreneurs who do not have the corporate stint but are still successful. May be your friend is one among them.. he is probably in the struggling stage.. just a phase of start up :)

Regards
